Forward to the Past
Conclusion
An old woman is confronted by a complete
stranger: 'Do you agree that the world is in chaos today?' the
stranger asks her. 'I suppose it is,' she answers, not in the
mood to conduct a conversation like this with someone she does
not know. 'And do you know who is responsible for all
this?' the stranger continues. 'Yes, I know,' the woman answers,
determined to get rid of the stranger, 'it is homo sapiens.'
The stranger is completely caught off guard. 'Who ... Who's that?'
he says, retreats and disappears.
I want to conclude by stating that a course
like Forward to the Past has an important role to play
in the curriculum of South African schools. We are currently
in the process of registering this course at SAQA (South African
Qualifications Authority) as a SGB (Standard Generating Body).
It has its own Unit Standard Title: CCLE (Cross Cultural Language
Enrichment) a SAQA approved Logo, a Unit Standard Number and
a Unit Standard Credit.
Interaction with the material of Forward
to the Past will help learners to grow into adults with well
rounded personalities and - let's hope - a sense of humour too.
The subfields of language and communication will develop increased
ability among the learners to communicate meaningfully in English,
hereby enhancing their general competence as a lifelong skill.
In this way Forward to the Past empowers learners to enrich
their command of the English language through cross-cultural
and linguistic studies based on the ever lasting Roman world!
