Students will practice the writing skill by writing a poem or composing a song about the movie The Odyssey.

Sequence of Lesson Activities
The teacher will show the students the movie the Odyssey.
The teacher will provide students with information on characters, plot and mythological elements in the Odyssey.
Students will brainstorm in Augustus Buddy Pairs and generate a list of song titles or poems that they think represent scenes, characters or plots from the Odyssey, either classical or contemporary.
The teacher will explain elements of poetry to students.
The class will discuss various genres of poetry and song in order to make a list of possible types of poems and songs.
Homework:
Students need to write a poem or song on some aspect of the Odyssey using characters, plot or mythological references for supportive documentation.
Long Term Planning
This is a one week assignment.
